The Settlement Home for Children

Childcare Volunteer

The Settlement Home for Children has a number of programs for children in foster care. They are looking for volunteers to spend time with the kids and help out. Volunteers would help the kids exercise, partake in recreational activities with them, and help them gain independent living skills. Volunteers need to be available form 9 am - 3 pm once a month during the school year. Volunteers will undergo a background check and other trainings.

Central Texas Table of Grace is a non-profit organization that provides shelter, healthy food, healthy habits and life-skills training in a loving, nurturing home-like environment for displaced foster children in our community ages 6-17. Founded by a former foster child, Central Texas Table of Grace officially opened on July 1st, 2015. CTTG currently needs volunteers that are willing to come on weekday evenings to tutor and help the children with their homework. Volunteers must be at least 21 years old, able to understand high school level curriculum and pass a background check.

CASA of Travis County

Become a CASA Volunteer

CASA of Travis County (Court Appointed Special Advocates) speaks up for children who have been abused or neglected by empowering the community to volunteer as their advocates in the court system, at school, with doctors, and in the community. When the state steps in to protect a child’s safety, a judge appoints a trained CASA volunteer to make independent and informed recommendations in the child’s best interest. Volunteers come from every walk of life and share a commitment to improving children’s lives, a willingness to learn, and an open mind towards life experiences different from their own. After being sworn-in by a judge, volunteers are appointed to a child or family of children and spend an average of 20 hours/month advocating for these children for at least a year. Volunteers must be at least 21 years of age and be able to pass extensive reference, Child Protective Services, and criminal background checks. Current foster parents or those in the process of adopting a child from Child Protective Services are not able to volunteer.

Central Texas Table of Grace is a non-profit organization that provides shelter, healthy food, healthy habits and life-skills training in a loving, nurturing home-like environment for displaced foster children in our community ages 6-17. Founded by a former foster child, Central Texas Table of Grace officially opened on July 1st, 2015. CTTG currently needs a volunteer to come for a few hours in the evening to cook dinner for the kids. They will provide all the ingredients and have recipe's available. This volunteer role would allow staff to concentrate more on the kids during the meal. Volunteers are welcome to stay and eat dinner with the youth. Volunteers must be at least 21 years old, should have general knowledge of cooking and sanitation practices, must be able to obtain a food handler's card and pass a background check.

SAFE | Stop Abuse For Everyone

Group Activities Volunteer

The SAFE Alliance (SAFE), a merger of Austin Children’s Shelter and SafePlace, serves children and families who have been effected by sexual assault and exploitation, child abuse, and domestic violence through prevention, intervention, and advocacy for change. They currently have an opportunity for groups to volunteer directly with the kids and families who are living either in their Children’s Shelter or Family Shelter. The kids and families enjoy crafts, athletics, and off-site activities such as bowling. They also need groups to host educational activities for the youth attending their on-site charter school. All volunteers must be at least 18 years of age.

Teen Reach Adventure Camp Austin

Summer Camp Staff

Teen Reach Adventure Camp is a free, faith-based camp for teens in foster care, ages 12-15. Over the course of 3-days, they provide a positive atmosphere for recreation and self-expression. This year the Boys camp is August 11th-13th and the Girls camp is August 18th-20th. They are looking for volunteers to fill several different roles at camp including counselors, support staff, kitchen crew, worship and cross talk leaders, certified lifeguards and archery instructors. All volunteers must be 21 years old and counselors must be 25. Volunteers must attend an orientation, submit a background check, and interview.

The YES (Youth Empowerment & Success) Mentoring Project through Partnerships for Children enrolls teenagers who reside in group homes or foster care, providing them with skills and resources they will need as adults. Prepare a Birthday Box for a Foster Child

Pop-Up Birthday celebrates kids in foster care by preparing a birthday box for them, complete with decorations, party games, snacks/drinks, goody bags, balloons, candles, a cake and gifts. They work directly with CPS, CASA and several residential treatment centers to deliver personalized birthday boxes to children in foster and/or kinship care. Simply follow a detailed checklist and drop-off instructions and your box will be delivered to a child. All ages and groups welcome!

Youth Program Volunteer

The mission at the Settlement Home for Children is to promote healing and growth in children, young adults and families by providing a continuum of care, support and resources. To accomplish this goal they depend heavily on volunteers. Volunteers are essential to helping children from hard places develop healthy relationships with other individuals, particularly adults. Volunteers can do this by becoming 1 on 1 mentors with children, or cottage mentors. Volunteers can also teach life skill classes. There are so many ways volunteers can use their talents and passion while volunteering with the Settlement Home. Volunteers must be 21 years of age, have taken a TB test within the last year, and undergo a background check as well as other trainings.
